Two children and one adult were killed in a double school bus crash on Asheville Highway, in Knoxville, Tennessee. At least 23 people have been injured.
The two young girls killed in the crash have been identified as 6-year-old Zykia Burns and 7-year-old Seraya Glasper.
Local officials said the University of Tennessee Medical Center is still treating 7-year-old Jaden Allen and 7-year-old Jada Parman, but no additional details about the current conditions at this time.
The accident happened on Tuesday around 2:50 p.m. when Knox County school bus 44 from Chilhowee Intermediate School collided with Knox County school bus 57 from Sunnyview Primary School.
According to the initial police investigation, the two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions. Bus 44 crossed over a concrete median after making a sharp left turn and hit bus 57 on the side. Bus 57 then flipped onto its side and slid until it came to a stop.
Two children and one adult from bus 57 were taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment of multiple injuries. At last check, all three were listed in stable condition. The driver of bus 44 was also transported to UT Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The students were in kindergarten through the third grade. Chilhowee Intermediate School and Sunnyview Primary School will be closed on Wednesday, and grief counselors will be sent to the schools.
