A California high school teacher was found hanging Monday inside a classroom in Placentia, according to police.
Captain Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority said the teacher took her life sometime before 8:40 a.m. at El Dorado High School in Placentia, CBS reported.
31-year-old photography teacher Jillian Jacobson it appears arrived early on Monday morning and locked herself in the classroom. Two of her first period students arrived in the classroom to find the door locked. They persuaded another teacher to unlock the door, and then all entered together, police said.
“When they walked in that’s when they found her,” said Placentia police Lt. Eric Point.
They helped cut her down from the ceiling and called 911.
When paramedics arrived, Jacobson was on the floor suffering from cardiac arrest. They performed CPR but were unable to revive the photography teacher. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Students and friends took to Twitter in the morning to mourn the loss of the popular teacher.
Crisis counselors will remain on campus all week. El Dorado High School is scheduled to reopen Tuesday.
